About This Course

Use of chemicals in the treatment of water is not new. Chlorination as disinfection was first practiced at a U.S. public water supply in 1908. Requirements for improved treatment have resulted in greater chemical use in recent years. Today, Water Treatment Plants are being designed to operate using chemicals for improving both process performance and finished water quality. Current practice includes adding coagulants, pH adjustment chemicals, oxidants, disinfectants, and polymers during the water treatment process.

The Chemical Addition course has been designed to introduce you to a variety of chemical addition processes, equipment, and systems. The content and resources will provide you with much of the knowledge necessary to confidently manage your chemical water treatment regimen.
